Commonly identified by its “smurf blue” color, eclectic taste, and often times secret ingredients, Blue Moon is a Michigan and Midwest staple. Blue Moon’s origins are murky. The two primary competing theories for its invention are that it came from Sherman Dairy Products in South Haven, Michigan, or that it was created in Milwaukee, Wisconsin by Austrian-Jewish refugee Bill “Doc” Sidon’. Whoever dreamed it up first, consumers claim the ice cream tastes of cotton candy, bubblegum, gin, Fruit Loops, vanilla, pistachio, almond, and multiple other flavors, any or all of which may be true since it is made by various companies and the “secret” ingredients are, well, secret.
