“Haint Blue”

Gullah Geechee believe the color wards off ‘boo hags.’ 

 Perhaps while enjoying travels in the South, and relaxing on a giant front porch, you looked up and noticed the porch ceiling was painted a peaceful, robin’s egg blue. That color choice was no casual decision.

In the low county of South Carolina and Georgia, blue had the power to protect enslaved Africans and their descendants, known as the Gullah Geechee, from evil spirits. But the color was also the source of incomparable suffering.
