Textbooks in the Library is a new pilot service offered by the libraries for Spring 2022. The library received a President and Provost’s Innovation Grant, which will provide the funds for the spring semester. These funds will be used to buy required print books for approximately 40 courses. The books will be placed on course reserves at the Library Services Desk, 2nd floor Park Library. They will be available to check out for three hours.
As part of our work on the project, we also checked the library’s collections for the remaining books from the Spring 2022 booklist. We found 140 print and 70 e-books that we already owned, and we will put these books on course reserves as well. By putting these on reserve, everyone on campus will be able to share using them. Documents on Demand can also provide chapter scans for CMU users and for users around the world.
The information about how to find the materials will be accessible in Blackboard. Using Blackboard’s Course Reserve link, students and faculty will be able to find:
- Print materials purchased with grant funds for their course
- Materials for the course that the library already owned
- The materials that faculty have requested for their course through coursereserves@cmich.edu
Students can also use Smart Search to search by course to find their materials. Type in the course name, instructor, or designator. Use the facets on the left side of the results page to tweak the results.
Faculty can take part in the program by lending us a copy of print textbooks that they own. We will put those on course reserves and return them at the end of the semester. Contact us at coursereserves@cmich.edu with any questions.
Faculty can also get help placing any other needed materials on course reserves as well. Please contact us at coursereserves@cmich.edu.
