Whether you use the library in person or access our virtual resources, we are here to support you in achieving your academic goals! Everyone is welcome!
According to Natalie Portman, Academy Award-winning actress, director, producer, author and activist, “Libraries are open, inclusive places that foster a sense of belonging and community. They show us anything is possible by encouraging a love of learning, discovery, and exploration.”
A growing body of evidence suggests that students’ academic success is linked to library usage, including improved student retention and an enhanced academic experience. Students especially benefit from having library instruction directly related to course assignments, using library study spaces and collections, and receiving one-on-one research assistance. Students who develop information literacy skills become more confident and capable at inquiry-based learning and problem-solving, effectively identifying and using information, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and civic engagement.
At CMU, the University Libraries offer you much more than what you see in the Park Library building. During the pandemic, we have been going above and beyond to adapt to our changing world by expanding our digital collections and services while also continuing to meet the needs of our users for access to quiet study spaces, computers, wi-fi, and printers. New services and events created in response to the pandemic, such as our contactless book pickup service and streaming speakers’ series, will likely continue post-pandemic.
Have you received noteworthy service from an employee at CMU Libraries? Consider showing your appreciation by sending them an email or nominating them for a national library star recognition!
