Brought to Michigan by Polish immigrants, pierogi are a popular treat in the state. Consisting of dough formed into half-moon shapes, pierogi are filled, boiled then fried. Traditional fillings are mashed potatoes, but many are also filled with cheese, sauerkraut, onions, meat, or vegetables. Modern recipes also include fruit-filled dessert pierogi.
