An iconic business of Hamtramck area, the Kowalski Sausage Company was founded in 1920. Started by Polish immigrants Zygmund and Agnes Kowalski, it first existed as a grocery store and smokehouse. As the demand for their cured hams and traditional Polish kielbasa grew, the couple opened the Z. Kowalski Company that would later move to its present location in Holbrook, Michigan.
