In 2021, Hungry Howie’s is the US’s 11th largest pizza chain in the United States, with more than 500 locations in 20 states. It is currently based out of Madison Heights but was started in 1973 by Jim Hearn and his delivery driver Steve Jackson in the Detroit suburb of Taylor. The company’s greatest claim to fame is as the originator of the flavored crust which it first rolled out at select stores in 1983. The firm’s website attributes it success to “A menu bursting with flavor and dough made fresh daily in each of our locations.”
